St Matthew's Community Hall in Elwick Road has now completed its refurbishment with £110,000 worth of work having been done. The whoe east end of the hall now has new meeting rooms, storage rooms and a computer suite added to its existing facilities.

Iain was more than happy to come along to the opening event and say a few words to congratulate the hard work of all those involved especially Barbara Butcher who took it upon herself to ensure that the renovation was a success.

Iain was on hand to unveil a specially commissioned mural to inspire staff at a local call centre.

Students from Cleveland College of Art and Design Cheryll Kung, Rebecca Readman and Laura Heasman created the painting for staff at Anglian Water here in Hartlepool.

Team leader Carron Brown came up with the idea of the mural to help brighten up the workplace and it incorporates the company's mission statement which is Leading, Vital and Proud.

"It was a pleasure to unveil the mural and to meet the talented artists involved in producing it. I hope that such talent is kept in the town and that more businesses will realise the potential of our Arts students here in Hartlepool."

Iain went along to Hartlepool Carers' Centre today to see the help available for carers whose health may be affected by the stresses and strains of caring.

As part of Carers' week carers were able to have their blood pressure and weight checked and there was an opportunity to share experiences, relax, enjoy a cuppa and have a chat; this is of great comfort and support and relieves the sense of isolation that many people are affected by.

Hartlepool Carers are encouraging carers to register at their local GP surgeries, it means that whenever the GP assesses a carers medical record, he or she can see that you have caring responsibilities. This would make them aware of the situation and the reason why you may be suffering from a certain condition - for example back pain (which can be brought on by lifting, moving or handling a loved one at home).
