Last Thursday it was announced that intensive care services should be transferred from the University Hospital of Hartlepool to North Tees.
The reasons given for this were primarily due to safety. The Unit at Hartlepool is under-occupied, at about half the available capacity. Supported care around the service is also compromised, with a link between intensive care and other related critical services. I was particularly concerned to read in the report last week that: “nurses feel isolated within the unit and insecure about the level of care they are practicing.”
